UAP Cavite Chapter Delegates to ASCAL Summit

Last February 3-4, the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) – Cavite Chapter proved its worth of being one of the frontrunners on ‘Redefining Service to Members’ as they participated in the 1st UAP Architects’ Summit on Collaborative Action & Leadership (ASCAL), held at La Carmela De Boracay Resort Hotel & Convention Center, Station 2, Boracay Island, Caticlan, Aklan.

With the theme “Archi-Nature: Architects in the Service of the Natural Environment”, Architects from all over the Philippines even in Asia, as represented by Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA), graced and participated the momentous event

Dubbed as ‘Archi-Nature’, the two-day event focused on the role of architects, as agent of change, and catalysts in nurturing, preserving and protecting Mother Earth while moving towards the inevitable growth and advancement and global warming to secure a better planet to live in for the next generations.

Tagged as ‘EXPERIENCE’, the summit formally opened with a simple ceremony and parades of the United Architects of the Philippines National Board of Directors, Guests of Honors, Officers of ARCASIA, Summit Committees and Architects-Delegates.

After the opening ceremony, the sumptuous lunch buffet was served and followed by the Summit Seminar Series.  The series was divided into 3 sub-themes:

  1. Architects for Ecological Tourism with the lecture entitled “Archi-Challenge: Living in Harmony with Nature” by Dr. Mina T. Gabor, PhD
  2. Towards an Ecosystem-based Architecture & Planning  where a talk about “Tourism & Understanding Nature” was given by Dr. Carlos M. Libosada, Jr., PhD 
  3. Architects in the Conservation of Natural Heritage & Architectural Patrimony where “Green Heritage” was presented by Arch. Dominic Q. Galicia, uap

Product presentations in between the seminars were conducted by Emerald, Bostic and Neltex.

A special talk by Arch. Jemma Sarol-Semana, uap was added on the latter part entitled, “What should we do when even the Architect’s house is flooded? – The Typhoon Sendong Incident”, where she tackled about the recent Typhoon Sendong which devastated the whole Cagayan De Oro, Iligan City and various parts of Mindanao.

A break-away session by area was succeeded.  This was attended by Area Vice Presidents, District Directors and Chapter Presidents only. 

The same night, HCG hosted the dinner, tagged as “A Little Night of Culture”, the event showcase the Ati-Atihan & some Filipino Folk Dances, the Pre-Pageant of the Beach Dude and Beach Babe Contestants, and a festive intermission numbers, parlor games, and raffle.

There are a total of 18 delegates came to represent Cavite Chapter, 14 UAP members and 4 UAP-Graduates Auxiliary members.  Below is the list of ‘Arkitektong Kabitenyo’ who participated on the summit:
